Delain – Lunar Prelude

Delain – Lunar Prelude

Never a band to rest on their laurels, after releasing their last album The Human Contradiction in 2014 and touring extensively in the U.S. and abroad, Dutch metal sensations Delain are back with a new EP titled Lunar Prelude, a special tease for their legion of loyal fans in anticipation of their next full length album coming later this year. Lunar Prelude was mastered by Grammy Award winning Ted Jensen, and features two brand new songs, the ultra catchy Suckerpunch, which has an electronica/techno keyboard layered over a crunchy and heavy guitar riff. Charlotte Wessels gorgeous melodic meets alternative vocals are soaring and instantly memorable with a classic Delain refrain and melody line. The second brand new song, Turn The Lights Out is a more somber and melancholy song which has an emotive powerful vocal performance from Wessels. The music is anthemic with a symphonic keyboard arrangement and a heavy guitar riff to create an incredible song that Delain fans will enjoy immensely.

The next song is a new version of Don’t Let Go from The Human Contradiction, the guitars are turned up a bit more on this version and the song has a bit more raw energy than the original track, but it’s not that drastically different and still maintains the same arrangement.

The EP concludes with three lives songs from The Human Contradiction album, Lullaby, Stardust, and Here Come The Vultures, all recorded in 2015, which find the band sounding as vital and full of energy as ever with their reinvigorated lineup, adding guitarist Merel Bechtold to the Delain family. After seeing the band perform twice recently on the 70,000 Tons of Metal cruise, I can safely say that Delain look and sound better than ever. This is the perfect EP to whet Delain fans appetite while they anxiously await the next full length albu, Highly recommended for fans of Delain.

Editor’s note : my two part interview with Charlotte Wessels is coming soon to Lady Obscure Music Magazine!
