[biglines]Hey folks!

Let me introduce you my new author:  Mr. jingle.boy!

Here’s what he has prepared for us![/biglines][/slogan]
I was first introduced to Hardline back in 1992 by lifelong friend of mine.  Having cut my musical chops on mid/late 80s “hair” metal, this was just the kind of band that wets my whistle.  Unfortunately, plagued by the early 90s backlash against that genre, and subsequent uprising (and IMO, oppression) of grunge music, Hardline’s debut release – while amazing – was doomed (commercially) from the outset.  Their return 10 years later left me with an overwhelming feeling of “meh”.

However, 2009’s Leaving the End Open was quite the musical proclamation that the band was back, with an amazing Progressive-Melodic album.  With lead vocalist Johnny Gioeli providing the only consistency to Hardline, his voice has become the definition of the band.  And a damn fine definition it is!!!  Johnny Gioeli’s voice is … just wow.  He’s got a low pitch, fantastic range, sounds powerful yet graceful, raspy but not grating.  I could listen to him sing the alphabet, and it would be blissful.  His sound reminds me of a Russel Allen to some extent – but without the metal.

The title track is to some degree is a traditional power ballad – which is a song style that I absolutely adore. Starting with a beautiful piano lead in, the song gives the listener a tale of predetermined uncertainty.  Although seemingly an oxymoron, it’s a story that focuses on what’s to be, and the ability to learn from the past to create a different and better future, all the while knowing nothing is guaranteed – “Turn it all over so now we can finally begin a different story”.  Beautiful lyrics, brilliant vocals, and with a nice warm musical accompaniment, this is a fantastic formula making Leaving the End Open an absolutely terrific song.
