Bio: Ozgur: We started band with Kudret in 2004. Had been knowing each other since we were 14-15. We even had our first band together those times. Along the years, played in different bands with different people and came to the point where we sat down and decided to do something together in a serious way. Only difference, we didn’t start to look for band members and got ourselves into the studio right away but talked about what it is going to be like for months. We played with different friends and recorded 3 Eps before the album but finally we had Cenk join us as the bassist thanks to a friend’s advice. When we asked Cagri, as we had been knowing each other for quite some time, if he knew a drummer looking for a band, he said “I can play”. And Sertac who was the producer of The Pattern of Life filled in for electronics and sampling when he learnt that we were willing to add some flavour to our music.
Genre: Ozgur: I can’t say that metal is the only thing we like as some of us also have interest in electronic, classical and some examples of pop but it is what we find ourselves open to. The things that I underline in the lyrics and the general attitude of the melodies or riffs would not match with pop, blues etc. Honestly, I am very bad at defining sub genres. I can only tell what I like to do and the opposite. Of course a lot of what we prefer in our music come from the types of music we’ve listened so far but I really cannot say if the result is metalcore, nwoahm, numetal etc . It is metal. That should be enough J.
Evolution of the musical and thematic elements: Ozgur: At the beginning we were mostly focusing on bands like Slipknot, Mudvayne, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Staind as they were at their highest popularity those times. We started covering their songs and this led us to becoming more core oriented during our first years. Making more songs together, the past EPs and all slowly brought us to a more melodic level but still we like the little core taste. The Pattern of Life is actually heavier on average according to our past work.
Lyrics, themes and concepts: Ozgur: “The Pattern of Life” concept is mainly about the memorised way of seeing things and how we unwillingly force ourselves to certain steps of life one after another. Some of the songs critise this through the life itself, some through religion, some through the human mind. We always started the songs with guitar riffs and the lyrics were cut and pasted from my previous notes. So, the atmosphere the guitars created shape the lyrics mostly, however I’d like to also do the opposite for the second album.
Ideas about the album: Ozgur: I am more happy that it finally came out since the efforts for publishing it through a label would nearly kill us. It took such a long time. I really trust the way we are mixing different styles and making a good soup. I believe the future albums will reflect our talent better.
Reception: Ozgur: It has been just a month since the album came out so it is pretty early to say something. You guys have written the first review of the album, thanks to Martin once again. We have heard some great thoughts and some very “right on the spot” critics in the following days. They all have made us proud so far.
Preference; live or studio: Ozgur: For me, I am doing records to get more and better gigs. ROAD!
Next step; live or studio: Ozgur: The touring chance within Turkey is quite narrow and the reason we made this album in English was to expand things a little bit and find an excuse to travel. We had already started working on the second album since The Pattern of Life took us a long time to release. So, as an appropriate reply for your question: working on the second album while running after some gigs in Turkey and abroad J.
Future plans: Ozgur: It totally depends on how much effort we put into it . I can say that this first album is just a piece of what we are able to do and the hard part here is to keep the sustainability in terms of a business.
Composers: Ozgur: I see the audience as an additional member all the time. What makes it fun on the stage is totally about their reaction. So we think of how to make them feel like they are part of the band while making the songs. Nothing is better than hearing people screaming your lyrics.
Preference; cater to the audience or music for its own sake: Ozgur: I see the audience as an additional member all the time. What makes it fun on the stage is totally about their reaction. So we think of how to make them feel like they are part of the band while making the songs. Nothing is better than hearing people screaming your lyrics.
Greatest Accomplishment: Ozgur: The Pattern of Life.
