Q&A With LOMM

Primeval Realm

Bio: Well, Primeval Realm pretty much started with just me (Joe Potash) in our hometown of Trenton, New Jersey, back in June of 2009, wanting to form a band in which I was the only guitarist… since all of my previous bands had two. I recorded three demos in that summer playing all of the instruments myself. We started playing out live and now are eagerly awaiting the release date of our debut full length record in which we made a music video for the single and are getting ready to hit the road in support of.

Genre: We play doom metal because it has such a strong bluesy rock feel, immortalized by the hard rock pioneers of the 1970’s. These are the kind of bands I was raised on as a kid and which ultimately led me to begin playing guitar.

Evolution of the initial musical and thematic elements: I basically just jam on some heavy riffs that I think are worthwhile, and then base melodies and harmonies around them, which usually become the vocal lines in which I write the lyrics for.

Lyrics, themes and concepts: The lyrical themes of this band, currently, are that of metal anguish, losing loved ones, questioning life itself and what is beyond, etc. Things really everyone can relate to.

Ideas about the album: Extremely happy. I honestly don’t think that I’ve ever been satisfied with any recording I’ve played on until now. I believe that we nailed the hooky choruses and catchy melodies, and just the overall heaviness that a fine metal record should have… with no compromise. The part we are trying to improve upon is the bringing the atmosphere of this record to the live stage.

Reception: Great. Given the record has not even been released yet! The promo video for “Heavy Is This Mind” has been extremely well received and people seemed to enjoy the old demos and shirts I had printed up… since we are all out of both.

Preference; live or studio: I really enjoy playing my music live for others but you still have to have a firm quality recording to back your name on.

Next step; live or studio: Absolutely. The album entitled “Primordial Light” will be released worldwide on Friday, March 14, 2014 on Pure Steel Records from Germany. We are currently booking a small east coast tour in the U.S. with an extension of some Canadian dates… you can check for updates on our website: Primeval Realm

Future plans: The future is looking very bright for the band. The wheels are in motion now and I don’t plan on stopping them anytime soon.

Composers: I have been the sole composer, arranger, and lyricist since the start.

Inspirations: Nothing but the greats… Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk Railroad, Robin Trower, Jimi Hendrix, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Mountain, ZZ Top.

Preference; cater to the audience or music for its own sake: While I am always interested in what our fans have to say… the most important thing to me is to always stay true to myself.

Greatest Accomplishment: Thus far… probably filming our music video in such a great location which I think came out stellar, but hopefully the best is yet to come possibly playing at Hammer Of Doom Fest this year in Europe!? We’re up for it all!
