Q&A With LOMM

Chiral

Bio:
I’m Teo (a.k.a. Chiral) and I’m the one and only member of this band named Chiral. This project was officially born at the very beginning of 2014 with the release of Chiral’s first demo “Winter Eternal”.

Genre:
Actually I didn’t choose any genre, I simply write the music I’d like to listen to. Furthermore I don’t like very much to label music genres. I think that it’s a bit restrictive, but however if I have to I like to label my music as “Elite Black Metal”, it sounds very cool, doesn’t it!? hahaha
Anyway my music has many influences from death/black metal, doom, prog rock and a touch of atmospheric.

Evolution of the initial musical and thematic elements:
Well, probably they evolve all along with my music knowledge. For example: I hear something new, I really enjoy this new stuff, so I’ll probably try to make mine part of this music.

Ideas about the album:
Yeah, of course I’m happy, but obviously I could do better. For example, if I could go back in time, I’d have work more on drums and bass in certain parts of my last ep “Abisso”. And maybe I’d also have improved the structure of the first song. But what is done is done, so I only can learn from my mistakes and make the best I can for the next record.

Reception:
Not bad, so far. I had some great reviews in my country (Italy) as well in USA and South America. Obviously I had also some bad and crappy reviews but they aren’t too much so far.

Shows:
Actually I decided to not play live. Chiral is a one-man band so I’d have to put together a session line-up for live gigs, but the truth is that now I prefer to remain focused on writing some new stuff. So, yes, we can talk about a new album soon.

Future plans:
I’m waiting for “Abisso” physical edition to be put out via Black Plague Records. Which should happen early 2015. And then I hope to spread the name of Chiral all around the underground. You know, I’m not interested in being famous, but I’d like to reach a lot of metalheads with Chiral’s music.

Lyrics, themes and concepts:
Mainly the lyrical themes are about death, solitude, pain, anti-Christianity and love. I get the inspiration for the lyrics from things in my life that make me angry and sad.
Usually I write the lyrics when the music is already set-up, but sometimes can happen that I have to change some parts of a song to help the lyrics fit best on it. But this occurs not so often.

Preference; live or studio:
Studio, no doubts.

Inspirations:
My main inspiration comes from Opeth, Dissection, Wolves In The Throne Room, Ulver, Porcupine Tree, At The Gates, Sacramentum, Naglfar, Thulcandra…but this list could be longer than this.

Preference; cater to the audience or music for its own sake:
Music for its own sake is probably my first aim.

Greatest Accomplishment:
Probably to put out a cd with Black Plague Record, it’s not out yet, but it should be early 2015. I couldn’t even believe something like this since 2 months ago.

Thank you very much for helping me to spread the word.
