LOMM: Can you give a little biographical and historical info; who is involved in the band, and how did you guys meet up?
Daniel, bass player: MARBLE WAS AN IDEA OF BASS PLAYER DANIEL, WHO CREATED WITH SOME LOCAL MUSICIANS AN ENSEMBLE TO PLAY PROG AND POWER METAL. SOON GUITARIST OMAR AND KEYBOARD PLAYER JACOPO JOINED THE BAND AND PAUL COMPLETED THE LINEUP AS LEAD GUITARIST. THERE WERE A FEW CHANGES BEHIND THE MIC DURING THE YEARS. WE PUBLISHED OUR FIRST DEMO, THEN IN 2008 OUR FIRST FULL LENGTH A.T.G.O.D., AN EP IN 2010. AFTER A FORCED STOP WE REPRISED THE PROJECT WITH ELEONORA AS NEW SINGER. WE RE-RECORDED A SONG FROM OUR FIRST ALBUM FOR A COMPILATION WITH THE NEW LINEUP AND BEGAN RECORDING THE NEW STUFF FOR S.A.V.E.
LOMM: Pandemic has taken an emotional toll on everyone yet the arts have been hit especially hard. The musicians are vulnerable to financial upheaval. How have you guys have been holding up?
Daniel: PAUL AND NORMAN ARE MUSIC TEACHERS SO THEY HAD TO ARRANGE VIDEO LESSONS FOR THEIR STUDENTS. THE REST OF US HAVE A DAY JOB SO LUCKILY WE HOLD ON.
LOMM: On the other hand you seem to have had a productive time. Is that right?
Daniel: YES WE TURNED THE PANDEMIC TO OUR ADVANTAGE, USING FILE SHARING TO CREATE A VIRTUAL STUDIO AND COMPLETE THE WORK FOR OUR ALBUM ‘S.A.V.E.’. AFTER ELEONORA JOINED, WE REARRANGED THE DEMOS WE HAD TO BLEND WITH HER STYLE AND START TO RECORD IN OUR STUDIO. THEN WITH THE HELP OF GIULIO CAPONE (MOONLIGHT HAZE) WE MIXED AND MASTERED THE WHOLE PROJECT.
LOMM: Tell us about your genre, what does it means to you, why did you choose this genre?
Daniel: FOR ‘S.A.V.E.’ IT WAS NOT A CHOICE, WE SIMPLY DID WHAT WE LIKED, BASED ON OUR INFLUENCES AND WHAT WE WANTED TO EXPRESS WITH THE LYRICAL THEMES. SURE, IT’S METAL, AND YOU’VE GOT FAST DRUMS AND HEAVY GUITARS, BUT WE WANTED TO FIND OUR OWN STYLE. I THINK WE’RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!
WHAT LEADS US TO
LOMM: How did the initial musical and thematic elements evolve?
Daniel: IN ‘S.A.V.E.’ EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED AND HAS MANY MEANINGS, THE MUSIC STARTS FROM THE LYRICS. WE HAD A CLEAR CONCEPT OF THE MAIN THEME, REVOLVING AROUND SINS AND VIRTUES, WE JUST HAD TO FIND THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS.
LOMM: Are you happy with your product? What aspects of it do you think you guys nailed, and what parts do you think you could improve upon?
Daniel: WE’RE MORE THAN HAPPY WITH THE RESULT! AND I THINK WE REALLY DID THE BEST WE COULD FOR THIS ALBUM. LOOKING BACK, YOU’LL ALWAYS FIND YOU CAN IMPROVE YOURSELF, OUR GOAL IN THE FUTURE IS TO MAKE GOOD USE OF THIS AWARENESS AND MAKE A STEP FORWARD. ONE THING WE’RE REALLY PROUD OF IS THE COVER ARTWORK, MADE BY JAN YRLUND! HE REALLY UNDERSTOOD THE KIND OF IMAGE WE WANTED FOR OUR COVER, WITH OUR WOMAN/ANGEL STILL IN THE CENTER!
LOMM: How has the overall reception been?
Daniel: REALLY BETTER THAN WE EXPECTED! LOTS WE GOT SOME REALLY GOOD REVIEWS FOR THE ALBUM. AND ALSO LOTS OF INTERVIEWS, WHICH ARE A GREAT WAY TO CONNECT TO PEOPLE AND TO EXPLAIN WHAT WE MEAN TO ACHIEVE WITH OUR MUSIC!
LOMM: Have you ever been on a tour? Given live performances? Is it tough for you not to be able to do so now?
Daniel: NO, WE’VE NEVER BEEN ON A TOUR. RIGHT NOW WE’RE NOT SEARCHING ACTIVELY FOR ANY LIVE SHOW, IT WOULD BE A WASTE OF TIME GIVEN THE PANDEMIC SITUATION.
LOMM: What is the next step for you? How is the future looking?
Daniel: WE CANNOT KEEP STILL… WE’RE ALREADY WORKING ON SOMETHING NEW.
LOMM: Could you tell us about the lyrics / themes /concepts you focus on or plan to focus on? How did the ideas come about, and how do they influence the writing process? Who is writing the lyrics?
Daniel: THE ALBUM IS THE FRUIT OF ARTISTIC INSPIRATION, I’D SAY. WE HAD THIS IDEA, TO COMBINE THE CONCEPT OF SINS AND VIRTUES WITH HUMAN BEHAVIOURS. WE TRIED TO FIND OUR OWN APPROACH TO THE SUBJECT: NOT RELIGIOUS, MORE DOWN-TO-EARTH, PROBABLY A BIT CINICAL AND DISPASSIONATE. IT’S A THEME WE FOUND TREMENDOUSLY APPEALING. ALL THE LYRICS ARE WRITTEN BY ME, WITH THE HELP OF ELEONORA. OMAR SUPERVISED IT ALL.
30 SILVER COINS (LYRIC VIDEO)
LOMM: Who is composing the songs?
Daniel: ELEONORA MOSTLY DECIDED THE VOCAL LINES. MUSIC CAME FROM THE TALENTED HANDS OF OUR TWO GUITAR PLAYERS AND FROM ME, WHILE JACOPO ADDED HIS TOUCH WITH THE KEYBOARDS.
LOMM: What bands do you draw your inspiration from?
Daniel: FROM THE MUSIC WE LIKE, ALL OUR HEROES AND INFLUENCES. EVERYONE LISTENS TO MUSIC, EVERYONE LOVES MUSIC, WE JUST LET IT IN AND FOLLOW THE FLUX ALONGSIDE THE IDEAS OF THE LYRICS. IT MAY SOUND PHILOSOPHICAL BUT IT’S THE TRUTH
LOMM: Which is more exciting? Being on the road or studio?
Daniel: RIGHT NOW IN THE STUDIO!
LOMM: What first got you into music?
Daniel: FOR ME IT WAS MY FATHER, HE ALWAYS HAD A RHYTMH AND BLUES BAND, SO I BASICALLY LIVED SURROUNDED BY MUSIC.
LOMM: What do you like the best about being a musician? And what is it that you do not like much?
Daniel: NOT A VERY ORIGINAL ANSWER, I KNOW, BUT MUSIC, JUST LIKE ANY FORM OF ART LET S YOU EXPRESS YOURSELF. ITS FREEDOM OF SOUL.
WHAT I DON’T LIKE IS THE BUSINESS SURROUNDING IT, TOO HARSH, TOO ALIENATING.
LOMM: If you weren’t musicians, what would you be doing?
Daniel: I DRAW COMICS, I’M A HUGE FAN OF AMERICAN COMICS. ELEONORA IS AN ACTRESS IN A LOCAL COMPANY.
LOMM: What’s more important to you? Catering to the audience or music for its own sake?
Daniel: BOTH OF THEM, BECAUSE MUSIC NEEDS TO BE HEARD. IF YOU MAKE MUSIC FOR YOURSELF IT’S GREAT, BUT IN THIS WAY YOUE EXPERIENCE JUST A PART OF IT ALL. YOU MISS THE OTHER HALF OF IT, WHICH IS TRANSMITTING SOMETHING TO OTHERS THROUGH YOUR ART. AND I MEAN ART IN GENERAL, THIS CONCEPT IS NOT LIMITED TO MUSIC.
LOMM: What is the most memorable gig that you have played to date?
Daniel: WITH MARBLE SUPPORTING ELVENKING, MANY YEARS AGO
LOMM: When you look back your music career, what do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?
Daniel: TO BE ABLE TO DO SOMETHING NEW. THE MAIN GOAL IS YET TO BE REACHED!
LOMM: Who would you like to collaborate with?
Daniel: THERE ARE LOTS OF PRODUCERS THAT ME AND OMAR (WE TWO FOLLOW THE TECHNICAL SIDE OF PRODUCING MUSIC) ARE IN LOVE WITH. MAYBE JACOB HANSEN FROM HANSEN STUDIOS. OR EVEN ANDY SNEAP!!
LOMM: Who would you like to go on a tour with?
Daniel: OH, WE’D LIKE TO PLAY WITH SO MANY BANDS WE LOVE. IN THE METAL SCENE. MAYBE EVERGREY OR EPICA, IF WE HAD THE LUXURY OF CHOICE.
LOMM: If you could play any festival in the world, which one would you choose? Tell us why.
Daniel: IS THERE ANYONE WHO WOULDN’T CHOOSE WACKEN?! IT’S THE GREATEST FESTIVAL IN EUROPE (WHOLE WORLD MAYBE?). OH AND ANOTHER REALLY FUNNY PLACE TO PLAY WOULD BE THE 70000 TONS OF METAL. A NICE CRUISE ON THE SEA WITH LOTS OF FELLOW METALHEADS!
LOMM: Name some of your all-time favorite albums? Include controversial ones.
Daniel: I CAN LIST FOR ALL THE BAND’S MEMBERS:
ELEONORA: DIRE STRAITS – MAKING MOVIES; NIGHTWISH – ONCE
DANIEL: MARDUK – PANZER DIVISION MARDUK; SONATA ARCTICA – SILENCE
OMAR: DREAM THEATER – TRAIN OF THOUGHTS; NEVERMORE – THIS GODLESS ENDEAVOUR
JACOPO: DREAM THEATER – IMAGES AND WORDS; KEITH JARRET – WHISPER NOT
PAUL: HELLOWEEN – KEEPER OF THE SEVEN PT 2; JOE SATRIANI – THE EXTREMIST
NORMAN: PROTEST THE HERO – SCURRILOUS; THE VALLEY – INTRONAUT.
LOMM: I’m more with Omar, Jacopo and Norman on this one J So.. What does your collection look like? Mostly Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, Digital? A bit of everything? A total mess?
Daniel: IN MY CASE IT’S A HUGE MIX OF VYNIL RECORDS OF CLASSIC ROCK FROM MY FATHER AND LOTS OF METAL CDS. I LOVE THE DIGIPACK CASE!
ELEONORA’S GOT ALMOST EVERYTHING IN DIGITAL FILES RIGHT NOW.
LOMM: What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
Daniel: WE’RE FROM THE NORTH WEST OF ITALY, NOT FAR FROM MILAN.
WE’RE BASED IN A SMALL TOWN, SO THERE’S NOT A SCENE PER SE HERE, YOU HAVE TO ROUND UP WITH OTHER CITIES, BUT DUE TO THE LACK OF PLACES WHERE TO PLAY OR EVEN REHEARSE IN THE LAST TEN YEARS IT’S REALLY DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE FLAME ALIVE.
LOMM: What is your weirdest memory in your music career?
MANY YEARS AGO WE WHERE INVITED TO PLAY IN SOME KIND OF HIPPY CAMP IN THE NORTH WEST OF ITALY, TO FIND OUT WE WERE THE ONLY METAL BAND PRESENT. IT WAS WEIRD, BUT FUNNY IN THE END. WE WHERE THE ONLY ONES WITH CHILDREN OF BODOM OR SLAYER T-SHIRTS AMONG FLOWERY SHIRTS AND LONG SKIRTS!
LOMM: If you had one message to your fans, what would it be?
Daniel: IN THIS TRAGIC TIMES I’D SAY “HOLD ON, STAY SAFE AND ALWAYS STAY METAL!”
LOMM: Anything else you think your fans should know?
Daniel: OUR ALBUM ‘S.A.V.E.’ IS AVAILABLE THROUGH OUR STORE WWW.MARBLEHEAVYMETAL.COM OR THROUGH OUR LABEL SLIPTRICK RECORDS. WE HAVE AN AMZING DIGIPACK THAT SHOW THE WONDERFUL ART OF JAN YRLUND, PLUS YOU CAN FIND TWO LYRIC VIDEOS AND A VIDEOCLIP FOR OUR SINGLES ON OUR CHANNELS! SUPPORT THE BANDS IT THE ONLY WAY TO ENSURE THE SCENE WILL GO ON!
LOMM: Thank you for taking the time!
THANK YOU SENEM FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY! IT WAS OUR PLEASURE!
CHEERS TO EVERYONE!
